Prerequisiti linguistici:

Students should have reached a CEFR B1 (Intermediate) level of proficiency. This level aligns with the standard educational outcome for high school students in Italy, who are expected to transition from a basic to an independent user.

Programma:

This Academic English course for Oriental language students focuses on transitioning from daily communicative fluency to the rigorous standards of English for Academic Purposes at a B2 level. Unlike a general English course, which prioritizes social interaction and informal vocabulary, this programme emphasizes critical thinking, nominalization, and evidence-based argumentation.

Risultati di apprendimento attesi:

By the end of the course, students will be able to produce formally structured summaries and presentations by transitioning from basic fluency to a an academic B2 level, demonstrating the ability to critically analyse and synthesise short academic texts.

Modalità di svolgimento:

The lessons are designed as interactive workshops where students learn by doing. You are encouraged to share your ideas constantly to turn academic information into clear, well-structured English.

Modalità di frequenza:

Since our lessons are built around group activities, regular attendance is strongly recommended to get the most out of the course. Each session builds on the last, so consistent participation is necessary to succeed.

Modalità di verifica:

The final assessment consists of a written exam in which you will complete a reading comprehension section and write a concise summary of the same text, focusing on your ability to extract main ideas and rewrite them in your own words.

Office hours are on Thursday from 10am to 12pm in the ‘SALA CEL’ on the ground floor.

This is 2-semester Academic English language course for all first-year ISO students (see programme information).

You need to pass the exam with an 18 (June, Sept, January and ‘appelli straordinari’) to take the Sociolinguistics exam withProf. Luca Valleriani (Canale 1) or Prof. Simona Laghi (Canale 2)
