Programma:

The course focuses on target language competencies required at a level B1 on the CEFR. Students will revise the main tenses (present, past and future tenses), the passive form and causatives, conditionals type 1-2-3, relative clauses, modals of deduction and speculation, habits in the present and the past (used to, be used, get used to). An important aspect of the course is working on word formation: the formation of new words from existing ones and identifying how words change according to their context by using prefixes, suffixes, new words or by changing the grammatical category of a word. This practice allows students to expand their vocabulary and to better understand the concept of word families, how a single root word can have many different forms. Topic related vocabulary and phrasal verbs will also be part of the syllabus (Nature and the Universe-Inventions and Discoveries- The Environment-Work). Knowing phrasal verbs allows students to sound more natural, to paraphrase effectively and to express more complex ideas concisely.

Programma:

The course focuses on target language competencies required at level B2 on the CEFR. Students will revise the main tenses (present, past and future tenses) in all their forms and aspects, the passive form and causatives, conditionals type 1-2-3 and mixed, reported speech and reporting verbs, relative clauses, modals of deduction and speculation, habits in the present and the past (used to, be used, get used to, would). An important aspect of the course is working on word formation (a type of exercise found in the Cambridge First Certificate exam): the formation of new words from existing ones and identifying how words change according to their context by using prefixes, suffixes, new words or by changing the grammatical category of a word. This practice allows students to expand their vocabulary and to better understand the concept of word families, how a single root word can have many different forms. High-frequency academic phrasal verbs which are used in academic writing and speech will be also part of the syllabus. Knowing academic phrasal verbs allows students to sound more natural, to paraphrase effectively and to express more complex ideas concisely. Programma:

This course is a strategic deep dive into the mechanics of credibility. At a C1 level, we move beyond basic grammar to explore the nuances of how language creates authority. The following aspects of Academic Writing will be covered: what type of language to avoid, nominalization, hedging, cause and effect, paraphrasing, summarizing, cohesion and coherence. In parallel, the habits of ineffective public speaking will be dismantled, replacing them with a command of vocal presence, logical signposting, and dynamic data visualization.

By the end of this course students will have become familiar with the basic and most important aspects of Academic Writing and will have achieved more confidence to defend their thesis before a panel of experts.

The exam is written and lasts about an hour. Students are awarded a pass with a score between 18 and 30. The exam reflects the course syllabus with two exercises. Exercise 1: rewrite the sentences using a more formal/academic register (10 sentences- 2 marks each). Exercise 2: paraphrase the text provided in the paper (10 marks).

This course provides a comprehensive roadmap for integrating environmental stewardship into food innovation. The course covers: the three pillars of sustainability, the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), positioning food systems as the primary lever for global change (SDG 2 and the role of FAO). Mediterranean Resilience: exploring the unique sustainability challenges within the Mediterranean basin. Circular Food Systems: transitioning from traditional production models to sustainable, resilient, and circular food systems. Analyzing the EU "Farm to Fork" Strategy, ensuring students understand the policy shifts driving the European Green Deal. One lesson is dedicated to Professional Communication, training students to deliver high-impact presentations that translate scientific data into actionable strategies.

By the end of this course, students will have the vocabulary to discuss sustainability in English and to relate the topic to the global food industry.

Programma:

Il materiale didattico (libro di testo)Il corso si compone di 60 ore suddivise in lezioni da due ore ciascuna, quindi trenta incontri. Ogni lezione prevede attività di reading, comprehension e listening attraverso l'uso di un libro di testo in cui si affrontano fondamenti linguistici di livello Al (lettura ed ascolto di un dialogo con esercizi inerenti). Il tutto seguito da una fase di speaking e/o writing in cui mettere in pratica le nozioni acquisite. Le attività di produzione orale possono essere svolte in coppia o in piccoli gruppi in modo da rendere i partecipanti più coinvolti, stimolare il loro interesse e permettere loro di confrontarsi tra di loro ed esercitarsi. e articoli di cancelleria saranno forniti gratuitamente dal CLA Sapienza.

Risultati di apprendimento attesi:

Alla fine del corso i partecipanti sapranno comprendere ed utilizzare espressioni quotidiane molto comuni e frasi semplici per bisogni immediati, come descrivere le loro abitudini, la casa e la famiglia. Si saprà parlare brevemente di sé ed interagire con un interlocutore, purché il dialogo avvenga con un lessico semplice e che l'interlocutore si esprima lentamente e chiaramente e sia disponibile a fornire aiuto se necessario.

Le verifiche vengono svolte periodicamente attraverso dei test presenti nel libro di testo. Al completamento del corso gli studenti otterrnanno un attestato di frequenza erogato dal CLA Sapienza.
